About us

Outstanding Early Years Care, Rooted in the Warrington Community

Who We Are

The Cheshire Day Nursery Group is one of the North West’s most established early years childcare providers – with four award-winning nursery settings across Warrington and more than 20 years of experience supporting local families

Opened in June 2010, as part of a small family run business. We have since come under Bright Stars.

Every one of our four settings – Latchford, Guardian Street, Thelwall and Winwick – holds an Ofsted Outstanding rating. That’s not a coincidence; it’s the result of a shared commitment to exceptional early years education, highly qualified staff and an environment where children feel genuinely safe, supported and excited to learn.

Our Approach to Learning

At the Cheshire Day Nursery Group we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework – and we go well beyond its minimum requirements.

We measure our impact rigorously. At our Latchford setting, 98% of all children are achieving across all areas of the EYFS – a figure we’re exceptionally proud of and one that reflects the quality of our practitioners.

What is EYFS?

EYFS Statutory Framework. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.

The 7 different areas of learning and development in the EYFS:

Communication and language development.

Personal, social, and emotional development.

Mathematics.

Expressive arts and design.

Physical development.

Literacy development.

Understanding the world.

The four principles of the EYFS are:

1. Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

2. Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

3. Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.

4. Children embrace learning and development in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.

What Our Ofsted Reports Say

“The curriculum is rooted in the team’s advanced knowledge of how children learn. Furthermore, the highly effective in-house training means that staff are confident teachers. Room teams identify a ‘skill of the week’. In one room this is ‘compare size and weights using gestures and language’. Staff seamlessly incorporate the concepts of comparative size and weight into routines, conversations and activities.”

“Books are at the heart of the curriculum. Babies focus on four core texts. Then more are added in each room. Discussion of the familiar stories becomes increasingly sophisticated as children grow. Children consider why the characters act as they do. When recalling the events of a favourite story, pre-school children remind staff that ‘we didn’t go through the stumble trip thingy’. Children ably apply their knowledge of stories to their own storytelling.”

Our Food

The Cheshire Day Nursery Group is committed to offering only the best nutrition to all children in our care.

Our onsite chefs, Lisa and Jenny, provide outstanding choices at both snack and meal times, ensuring that babies, tweenies, toddlers and preschoolers are satisfied, energised and eager to learn.

We aim to stimulate all the senses and encourage a lifelong passion for healthy eating, which leads to a positive self-image.

We provide meals based on each child’s individual dietary needs, including dairy-free, gluten-free and vegetarian options, with an alternative provided to the main menu. Examples include dairy-free and gluten-free vegetable lasagne, dairy-free creamy garlic chicken and gluten-free roast dinner.

Before your child starts to attend nursery, you will be asked to provide details regarding any dietary needs, including allergies. These needs are incorporated into your child’s individual menu plan and communicated to all practitioners, meaning you can feel assured that medical, cultural and dietary requirements are fully respected.

Mealtimes are also an important opportunity for children to develop social skills. They experience social interaction while learning the social rules associated with eating spaces. Children learn how to experience food safely, while older children develop self-help skills by pouring their own water and serving their own food.

Children also develop an understanding of allergies, helping them become aware of other people’s needs and how these are part of everyday life.

Food preparation is another part of the children’s experience. They take part in baking a wide range of dishes, focusing on developing the skills needed to do so.

Referring to the Food Standard Agency’s ‘Balance of Good Health’ tool for portion guidance – and following the Government’s Eight Guidelines for a Healthy Diet – all nurseries provide:

Each day, our cooks display their menus on the nursery notice boards; however, please note that we reserve the right to make last-minute changes to the menu.

Practitioners maintain a 5-star rating for food hygiene, as well as creating enjoyable experiences at snack and meal times so they do not become battlegrounds.

Breakfast (before 8.30am), a light morning snack, lunch and light afternoon tea

The children are also supported to learn how to bake and cook their own snacks during Forest School, which includes roasting and toasting on the campfires!
